Not long ago Ubisoft released a few screenshots and concept
art giving us a scoop of their latest yet to be released title – Black Flag.
If you’re a great Pirate fan, this is the game you must be
looking forward to. It is set in the Caribbean Islands during Great Pirate Era
in the early 18th Century. It includes many historical figures like Benjamin Hornigold, Calico Jack, Anne Bonny and Blackbeard. I wonder if
it’ll seem kinda nostalgic while playing the game with mixed feelings of being
an assassin in Pirates of the Caribbean and thinking of Blackbeard from the
Japanese anime One Piece.
The protagonist of Black Flag is Edward Kenway – father to
Haytham Kenway and grandfather to Connor Kenway ( Ratonhnhakè:ton).
The game
seems more open world than before. The freedom of gameplay that Black Flag
gives to the players is pretty impressive; players can simply dive off from the
ship, swim to the shore, explore islands, raid other ships and even loot the underwater
ship wrecks. Most of the game will take
place on land and players can explore a wide range of locations like villages,
plantations, jungles, Mayan ruins and exotic islands. Black Flag features three
major cities Havana, Nassau and Kingston. The gameplay also reveals some
underwater exploring with full combat system. Now that’s something, underwater
sea is filled with enchanted things and makes me curious about how the
developers will interpret something like that in the game. It looks gratifying
enough in the gameplay trailers though. The combat is system is upgraded to
free aiming unlike the previous titles.
Game will
also have naval combat which includes number of side missions. Players will be
able to exploit weather patterns and ambush the opposition to conditions like
dynamic storms to their advantage.
The developers have implemented dual wielding of weapons
where Edward can use 4 pistols at the same time and dual cutlass swords as well
(Reminds me of Zoro’s Nitoryo from One Piece). Other weapons include Blowpipes,
Firearms, Hidden Blade and Rope Darts. The stealth system is encouraged in the
game.
The new ‘Horizon’ open-world system will dynamically create
side missions and exploration is the key to the game. Black Flag certainly
looks more interesting and intriguing than Assassins Creed III. The graphics as usual look amazing and I’m
pretty keen on getting my hands on the game reliving the memories of a pirate
assassin exploring bizarre and colorful islands, ride on a pirate ship in the
deep blue green ocean with the sun’s light falling on the surface of water and
making it shimmer like gold, explore the Mayan ruins and swim underwater with
outlandish aquatic species.
