The Knife of Dunwall Review

Traversing in an instant, crouching on the rooftops, performing sneak attacks and turning enemies into ash..... Knife of Dunwall keeps alive the intrinsic nature of Dishonored. Once again you will find yourself in doleful city of Dunwall. However, you don’t play as Corvo but Daud the leader of the Whalers assassin group who is responsible for the death of the Empress. Now if some of you killed Daud in the main game and wondering how it’s possible to play his role, well the story runs in parallel with Dishonored.

"Daud, my old friend. It's been a while, but you've got my interest again...I'm here because you're right, the Empress was different."
―The Outsider

The Outsider
Daud, after carrying out the assassination of the Empress is chafed with guilt and regret. The outsider appears before him and provides him with "one last gift" so that he can alter the upcoming events.

The DLC comes with 3 missions. You as Daud are accompanied by Billie Lurk, the second-in-command throughout the events of The Knife of Dunwall. As you infiltrate the Rothwild Slaughter house in the first mission you will encounter the new class of enemies - The Butchers. They are some horrifying whale-oil powered buzz-saw users. One certainly won’t prefer a head on collision with these species. The slaughterhouse is one hell of a bloody condo with crimson rivers flowing down the sewers.

In the second mission you meet the major character of the DLC, Delilah Copperspoon. She is revealed to be the leader of a powerful witches' coven called the Brigmore Witches.

 Delilah Copperspoon

The third and final mission of the knife of Dunwall is brimming nostalgia. You once again find yourself in the sewers you escaped from in the main game. However in the former you had to encounter the assassins and infiltrate Daud's hideout which was pretty difficult as your enemies used more or less the same powers. In the current scenario, the hideout is taken over by the overseers who also happen to capture your minions. The end of the mission reveals the betrayal of Billie to Daud secretly working with Dellilah.

Moving on with gameplay you get 3 more supernatural abilities: Void Gaze, Summon Assassin and Arcane Bond. The DLC compromises Devouring Swarm and Possession abilities. You will also get 2 new gadgets, Choke Dust and Arc Mines.

                                           Chokedust                                  Arc Mine

The mission outcome is determined by chaos level like in the main game. You can go blink blink killing around everyone in high chaos or perform sneak attacks and use shadow kill to dispose of the bodies. Although, high chaos is fun but the beauty of the game lies in low chaos. Moreover, The Knife of Dunwall focuses on stealth skills. You might feel that the blink power covers a shorter distance compared to what Corvo used but the new ability of Blink can freeze time while you are using it. Also, there are not as many mana potions available as they were in Dishonoured. The outsider seems partial towards Daud as you don’t get the talking heart in the game; it sure feels incomplete without the heart. The dark vision ability doesn’t work the same as well. In the first level you can only use the ability to find runes and bone charms. You can’t see the enemies behind the wall or the perspective of vision until you activate the second level of it. But don’t worry, not even once you will feel you are not playing as the old dishonoured assassin except the part where Daud is not a voiceless protagonist like Corvo was.

The art work in Knife of Dunwall is brighter than usual. One can do nothing but appreciate it. Even the sewers look beautiful with waters reflection on the walls.

Knife of Dunwall is more of Dishonored. The plot reveals the bigger picture of the game with more conspiracy and betrayal and still leaves you holding on to the game. With new characters and yet to be revealed plot of the third DLC the Brigmore Witches, prepare to be Dishonoured.
